Meet Philip Hallenberg, he develops and manages Business Intelligence reports and data models for our Commercial department. His experiences at the company have taken many forms, where he started as a summer worker as a fireguard overseeingin Gävle and also as an operator at one of the winder machines. Now he's an expert in BI-reporting for our Commercial organization in Europe.
"It's a very stimulating and challenging job that requires a good understanding of the business as well as the technical aspects", Philip says.
Philip tells us that he ended up in his current role by chance, but also that in the end, it was a natural fit for him.
"In my previous job, I stumbled into the BI field almost by chance and quickly realized that I wanted to fully engage in it. When a position in this area opened up at Billerud, it was a no-brainer for me to apply, especially since I had enjoyed my previous summer jobs at the company. Now I’ve been working at Billerud for 2 years, almost 3 if you count the summer jobs."
Tell us about your career journey at Billerud so far.
"So far, my development journey is short in terms of time, but I look forward to a long journey ahead. During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to work as a fireguard overseeing in Gävle, operated a winder machine, worked on planning for our largest client, and in my current role I have initiated agile teams within IT. Foremost, I’ve been involved in developing data models and reports for the commercial organization."
What have you learned from your career at Billerud?
"I have acquired a fairly broad understanding of how various parts of the company operate – from sales to IT to production. But if I were to say something specific, it’s understanding the needs and how to prioritize these within a large organization. Learning the agile way of working has been an important part of this. Because there’s so much that we can do, but we should focus on what is truly valuable."
What would you say to people who are at the beginning of their careers at Billerud?
"Dare to ask when you don’t understand, but above all – dare to try. And make sure to do a mill visit. For those wondering why Billerud is a great company, it’s thanks to all the competent and sympathetic colleagues, feeling valued and the fact that what we do is pretty cool from an engineering perspective."
