Escanaba Mill and Wisconsin Rapids Converting Facility achieve ISO 9001 certification
Billerud’s Wisconsin Rapids Converting Facility and Escanaba Mill have achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification. This certification confirms our dedication to delivering products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements while aligning with an internationally recognized standard.
Committed to quality
ISO 9001 is a globally recognized Quality Management System standard designed to ensure organizations consistently provide high-quality products and services. For Billerud, achieving this certification underscores our commitment to excellence and reliability in every aspect of our operations.
Johanna Dahlman, Manager of Global Product Quality and Food Safety, emphasized the importance of this accomplishment:
"As a global standard, it opens up new markets and customers for Billerud. A reliable Quality Management System is essential for every aspect of our business and can be considered a 'license to operate’.”
The certification journey
The road to certification involved several months of preparation, including both internal audits by Billerud employees and external audits conducted by Quality Systems Registrar (QSR).
- Wisconsin Rapids Converting Facility underwent its certification audit in October 2024. Led by Laura Neville, Certification & Environmental Site Lead, the team resolved minor issues related to calibration, training documentation, and work orders, leading to certification approval in November 2024.
- Escanaba Mill completed its certification audit later in October 2024, with Connie Kangas, ISO Certification Site Lead coordinating the effort. After addressing a minor nonconformity related to responsibilities in documentation, the facility was also approved for certification in November 2024.
Laying the foundation for future success
While achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification is a significant accomplishment, it is just the beginning. To maintain compliance and ensure ongoing improvements, both facilities will undergo external surveillance audits in 2025. These audits will help us uphold the highest quality standards and support our long-term growth.
“These certifications provide a strong foundation for Billerud’s ongoing expansion and growth. We look forward to building upon this achievement to make progress in Food Safety, Environmental, Energy, and Safety certifications in the future,” says Susan Sheski, ISO Certification Manager for Billerud North America.
